Blog entry TV 7

Summary:
The first item on the show is about two gay men who got married. This was the first time in France that two gay men got married.
The second item is about “Britain’s got Talent” where Simon Cowell is a judge. Bruce Forsyth had some comments about the show which Simon couldn’t take. Bruce thinks young children shouldn’t be on the show, because it could cause emotional damage to them. Simon Cowell responded to that with ‘Mr. Grumpy.”
In ‘the odd one out’ the show tells us about beards. A new trend involving beards is coming up. Men with beards can get money by hanging advertisements into their beards.

Opinion:
I think it’s good that gay marriage is finally legal in France, and people can get married there now. On the second item, I don’t really agree with Bruce Forsyth. I don’t think a show should ban children, but parents should not let their children participate. I don’t think it is the shows responsibility of what the children might say or do when they get rejected. That shouldn’t be the job of the show but from the parents.
I think the last item is pretty funny. I think it’s a good idea to promote a company or something else that way, but I don’t know if it would really help.

Blog entry TV 6

Summary:
The first item on the show is about politics. Here they are talking about Berlusconi who is sentenced to serve seven years in prison, but now he is going to appeal.
The next item on the show is that all the guests have to guess what the picture, which is shown, is about. The answer was the route that Edward Snowden is trying to take to avoid the American law system. Edward Snowden was a former CIA agent, who leaked some details about surveillance programs of the United States and England.

Opinion:
I think it is good that Berlusconi has been sentenced to go to prison; however I am afraid that after all he won’t go to prison at all because he is such a powerful person in Italy.
I don’t really know what my opinion is about Edward Snowden. I do think it is good that he leaked some information that everybody knows what’s going on, since the government doesn’t tell everything to its citizen. However, I don’t think it is good that he leaked the information because you’re not supposed to do that and because of all the commotion it has cost.

Blog entry TV 5

Summary:
For the last ten years there has been a baby boom in England. Now that the children are old enough for school, space is limited. A school in London has taken in two extra classes because of the high demands. The school does have some issues now like the time tables and the school curriculum.
A new train from London to Birmingham, the HS2, has some delays. People around the train rail are not happy with the new train, which is going to be a high speed train. The judge has given green light to the government, so the train rail can still be build.

Opinion:
I think the space issues for school should be looked at really soon. I think it is important every child should be able to get good education, and I am concerned that if there are too many children in a class room the school can’t give everybody enough attention which can lead to bad results.
I don’t think I would be too happy with a high speed train in my backyard, so I would definitely protest again the train myself. I do think it is good to have a high speed train going from and to big cities since the public transportation is pretty bad in England.

Blog entry TV 4

Summary:
The two presenters of the show are on the flight deck of HMS Illustrious. There was a special ceremony in the St. Paul’s cathedral, and also later that day where there will be a charity dinner. The reason for all this is the 70th anniversary of the ship.
Eddie Izzard is also on deck. He spoke to royal veteran Billy Swift. Billy did a lot of stuff for the country, especially in Russia. Russia wanted to give him a medal for what he did in Russia, but they couldn’t because there is a rule in England which stops them from getting the medal.

Opinion:
I think it is good that they have a day for the ship, but also for all the veterans. This way people can look back on what happened, which I believe is a good thing. It is also a good thing that Eddie is talking about the fact that England refuses to let the veterans get a medal. It could raise some questions and it could possibly change in time. Because I believe people who did a lot of stuff for their country deserve a medal for it. That is why I believe it is good somebody brings it up on television.

Blog entry TV 3

Summary:
The first item coming up in the show is about the UK and gay marriage. The House of Lords might get a second reading on this subject, which they actually never do from the bills of the Commons. This is because there were a lot of different opinions about the subject.
Another topic on the show is about a swan named Hooper that has fallen in love with a helicopter. The swan fell in love at a golf club in Jersey, where the helicopter comes often because it is owned by a wealthy business man. The swan’s wings have been cut off for his own safety.

Opinion:
I think it’s good that the House of Lords might consider a second reading for gay marriage. My opinion about gay marriage is pretty easy; I think if you love someone you should be able to marry them.  That is why I think it’s good they take a second look at it.
About the swan I don’t really have an opinion. I think it is pretty funny that a swan ‘fell in love’ with a helicopter. I do think its good they cut off his wings. Otherwise the swan would just be killed by the helicopter.

Blog entry TV 2

Summary:
BBC News starts off with Cyprus. The president has said that Cyprus might me bankrupt, unless they accept money from other countries in return for their rules of running the country. The people from Cyprus have to pay up to 10% on the money on their accounts, so a lot of people feel like they are stealing their money.
The other big news from BBC was that the new Pope Francis has delivered his first Angelus prayer and blessing to thousands of people on St. Peters square in Rome. The Pope made some changes to the speech that was prepared, which is unusual to do for a Pope.

Opinion:
I don’t really have a good opinion about what is going on in Cyprus. I do understand that other countries need to help them, and therefore set some rules. However, I don’t think people need to mess with somebody’s money, which people worked hard for. Then again, when you don’t have rules to save your country from bankruptcy, everybody will lose their job anyways.  I think this is a difficult situation.
I think it’s nice that the new Pope gave his first speech, although I don’t feel anything for it at all. I do know Italians are very religious, so for them this was a really big deal.

Blog entry TV 1

Summary:
The director of the new movie "Star Trek", is directed by JJ Abrams. JJ Abrams is also known for the TV series ‘Lost’ and other movies like ‘Mission Impossible 3’ and ‘Super 8’. Some people say JJ Abrams is the new Steven Spielberg. JJ Abrams tells us in the interview together with Mark Kermode that at first he didn’t like Star Trek at all, but now actually directs the new movie. He tells us that he first fell in love with magic, and in a way making movies is also a kind of magic. That is also where he finds his passion and energy for direction movies.

Opinion:
I think it’s funny to see what JJ Abrams has to say about making movies. I personally don’t like all of his movies, and I think it is because we see the point of movies differently. I don’t see why movies have to be like magic, as magic and movies are two different things for me. I can see what he means by this, when you see his movies you see a lot of things that cannot happen in real life. Personally I don’t like movies like that, but that is just my personal opinion. I do think it is nice to see how much passion he has for directing.

Blog entry paper 7

Summary:
The Commons expenses watchdog just have revealed 148 MPs have claimed money for their children’s  extra costs of living and travelling with them. These MPs take advantage of the rules that are set up for the children of the MPs. The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa) showed their results that showed some MPs claimed more than 10,000 pounds for their children. This has cost the people of England almost 140,000 pounds since 2010. Some of the MPs already had been allowed to claim more than before to rent bigger houses.

Opinion:
I think it is absurd to claim so much money for children from MPs. MPs already make a lot of money, so why would they still need to claim money for their children, when they can pay for it themselves since they make a lot of money. It only costs a lot of the taxpayers, when they actually make less money than the MPs self, so I don’t see why they need to come up with the money. I just think it is ridiculous. I believe the MPs take too much advantage of their status and power.

Blog entry paper 6

Summary:
A public inquiry has found that the man Azelle Rodney was killed unlawfully eight years ago by a MET police officer. Azelle was shot six times in London eight years ago when he was stopped over in his car by a MET police officer. The MET police officer believed Azelle picked up a gun, which is why he shot him. The MET police officer now faces criminal charges for the dead of Azelle. Azelle's mother wants an apology from the MET police officer who shot Azelle. The police commissioner says the MET police officer was wrong to shoot Azelle.

My opinion:
I think it was wrong to shoot the guy Azelle. I think it is stupid to just say that he picked up a gun, when there was no gun in sight. I think police officers are wrong a lot of the times when shooting someone, because these kinds of things happen quiet often these days. I feel like police officers these days just feel like they have the power and can just do whatever they want, which is totally wrong if you ask me. It is good that they investigate the crime to see who was really wrong of right.
